How Far Same-sex marriage legalization has come
By Ava Piliang
Same-sex is still a heavily debated topic as it has been for decades because same-sex marriage is such a heavily debated topic people barely recognize the strides that have been made in the past few decades. For instance, the first country to legalize same-sex marriage was the netherlands which legalized same-sex marriage in 2000, and since then and as of 2023 33 other counties have legalized same-sex marriage including the United States in 2015, and most recently Slovenia in July of 2022 became the first former soviet country legalize same-sex marriage. While it may seem as though same-sex marriage is always in the news for negative reasons it is important to remember that the international community has made strides in the past few decades and it is essential to remember to be how far the global community has come in recognition of same-sex marriage
